Support Equal Access to Justice
Every day, vulnerable individuals face serious legal challenges—eviction, abuse, immigration crises, financial scams—with no access to legal representation. Your donation helps close that justice gap. Center for Elder Law & Justice is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing free legal services older, disabled, and low-income adults. Your support empowers vulnerable individuals and families to protect their rights and their futures.
Here we have outlined a variety of opportunities to establish your philanthropic legacy in support of your interests and values at Center for Elder Law & Justice. Further information or support is available by contacting Kristie Edwards, Director of Donor Development & External Relations at kedwards@elderjusticeny.org or 716-853-3087 x239.
Leave a Legacy with a Bequest
One meaningful way to support the mission of Center for Elder Law & Justice is by including us in your estate plans through a bequest.
A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust. It allows you to leave a lasting legacy while continuing to use your assets during your lifetime. This type of planned gift ensures that your values live on by supporting our work for years to come.
With the help of your attorney or financial advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to family, friends, and the Center for Elder Law & Justice. Your generosity will help us continue to provide vital legal services to older adults and vulnerable populations.
Make a Gift of Stock or Mutual Funds
Giving a gift of stock or mutual fund is an easy way to support Center for Elder Law & Justice. Just as with cash gifts, you will receive a federal income tax deduction for the full market value of any securities you donate, as long as you have owned them for at least one year. You may also avoid the capital gains taxes you would owe if you sold these securities.
How to Give the Gift of Stock
Initiate the Stock Transfer. It is necessary for you to contact your broker to initiate the transfer.
Notify Center for Elder Law & Justice about your generous gift at kedwards@elderjusticeny.org. We will provide you with the necessary banking details to complete the transaction!
Send the securities to Center for Elder Law & Justice.
Give Through Your IRA — Tax-Wise Giving for Donors 70½ and Older
The charitable IRA rollover is a special provision allowing particular donors of a specified age to exclude from taxable income—and count toward their required minimum distribution—certain transfers of Individual Retirement Account (IRA) assets that are made by donation directly to public charities. With the help of your IRA Plan Administrator, you can lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals by making a charitable gift to Center for Elder Law & Justice.
Benefits of a Gift Made Through Your IRA
Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to our organization
May satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
Help further the work and mission of Center for Elder Law & Justice
